Octopus Encounters
Offered daily at 2:00 PM
Did you know the Giant Pacific Octopus has independent brains in each of its arms? You will experience this firsthand at an octopus encounter. Shake hands with the Giant Pacific Octopus in an intimate experience with a member of the River Museum’s husbandry team. Learn about the species and enjoy a behind the scenes tour of the Eckstein Family Rivers to the Sea exhibit including the seahorse and moon jelly nurseries.
The experience is 30 minutes in length and does not require general admission. Encounters are offered once daily and includes space for one group of up to six people. Cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance, and the tour can be purchased online or at the box office.
Please note: Shellfish exposure possible. Please notify the tour guide if you have a shellfish allergy. The tour is not wheelchair accessible and requires walking up three steps.
While the River Museum offers special experiences, like all of our creatures, octopuses are wild animals. During this program, we request certain behaviors from our octopus but cannot guarantee they will be willing to participate. Your understanding is appreciated.
