The National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium is excited to announce its participation in the global GivingTuesday movement on December 3, 2024. This year’s campaign will focus on raising funds to support the River Museum’s Teens Take C.A.A.R.E. program, an impactful initiative that empowers young people to engage in Conservation Action through Advocacy, Research, and Education.

Through the Teens Take C.A.A.R.E. program, local high school students help staff to preserve and restore the Mississippi River and its watershed, foster stewardship of the flora and fauna found within the Mississippi River watershed, protect threatened and endangered species, and promote sustainability. The program not only fosters a sense of responsibility for the natural world but also equips teens with the leadership skills needed to address the conservation challenges of today and tomorrow.

GivingTuesday is a worldwide day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to encourage philanthropy and celebrate generosity. The River Museum is calling on its community of supporters, members, and guests to join this movement by making a donation that will directly contribute to the success and growth of Teens Take C.A.A.R.E.

“Take C.A.A.R.E was developed for local teens to explore the realm of conservation, environmentalism, and sustainability through ‘C.A.A.R.E’-ing,” said Codi Sharkey, Conservation Programs Manager and one of the leads for Teens Take C.A.A.R.E. “The importance of the program lies in the opportunity for local teens to not only explore conservation initiatives in our community, but also build positive identities on how they interconnect with nature, foster social connections with like-minded peers and explore future career paths, while completing a project that brings benefit to the community. The River Museum is proud to be able to provide this unique type of program for local teens.”

“By supporting this program on GivingTuesday, folks are not only investing in educational opportunities for teens, but they are also building awareness that this program is available for local teens."

Donations made on GivingTuesday will support the program’s ongoing work, including providing teens with access to educational resources, training opportunities, and projects that contribute to the River Museum’s mission. Contributions of all sizes make an impact and will ensure the continued success of this vital program.
